Freud and his latter day progeny, Jacques Lacan, explain the problem -- albeit indirectly and without a full (that is, politically contextualised) understanding of their own ideas. They tend to psychologise effects that are actually political in their origins. Thus, they see as "innate" what was actually caused and deny the existence of causality.
