How "ego" is conceptualised in Christianity vs. shamanism
Unspoken and unrecognised differences in the use of the same terminology can lead to a real confusion about the purpose of shamanic techniques. The purpose of shamanism is not to shame people or cause them to "lose their ego" (above all, not in that rhetorical or folksy sense). The sinking direction indicated by in shamanism is rather toward the self. All the same, the "ego" (in shamanic terms) remains a buoyant marker of one's identity on the surface of being and so is never truly lost.
