MORAL SYSTEMS KEEP YOU NAIVE
- LeeAnne Fourcrows Hensley And moralistic systems fail miserably to protect you from harm, anyway. The only thing they succeed in doing is preventing the learning and empowerment that comes from a shamanistic relationship with yourself. All the harm of harm, but none of the benefit.
- Jennifer Frances Armstrong That's a good summary
- Jennifer Frances Armstrong Sometimes they do preserve your life, but it is at the cost of remaining childlike.
- Benjamin De Vries Corruption empowers.
- LeeAnne Fourcrows Hensley If anything, there is more evidence of moralistic systems "preventing" harm in the capacity of hiding it, and blaming the people who have been harmed, rather than the person(s) inflicting it.
- LeeAnne Fourcrows Hensley My brother told me something about growing basil. He said, "Like people, basil plants need stress and rough conditions in order to become robust in flavor, and to develop 'personality'. If they're pampered, sheltered, and planted in rich soil, they'll be pale, weak, and bland."
- Jennifer Frances Armstrong Moral systems become hypocritical because they are based on principles of safety, rather than knowledge. So, then after a while, they start to throw around false allegations, in all ignorance.
- Jennifer Frances Armstrong I like your bros view on basil. You can see by my pictures, what kinds of conditions I have experienced
- LeeAnne Fourcrows Hensley I have to agree. Although I could never raise a child the way my parents did it, I'm fairly certain I wouldn't be half the person I am today without the struggles I've made it through. I think the key is that whatever a person's experience, routine and logical analysis is crucial to coming out of it with strength rather than being broken by it.
- Jennifer Frances Armstrong Absolutely. That's it. You either get broke or you pull it together somehow, using qualities you never knew you had.
- Benjamin De Vries Risk must be balanced against gain. No risk for it's own sake.
- LeeAnne Fourcrows Hensley I think a lot of people who have experienced this transition are likely to find that they were never a personality suited for hiding and cowering. This is why that technique failed to the point that we concluded to change that behavior.
- Jennifer Frances Armstrong Actually you are wrong there, Ben, because women are taught not to risk for its own sake, so sometimes risking for its own sake is necessary, to reverse the habit
- LeeAnne Fourcrows Hensley Sometimes it's difficult or impossible to see what you stand to gain by taking a risk until you do it.
- Benjamin De Vries Agreed... but like tarot cards, it is the learning tool to assimilate the pattern, not an end in itself. Also a trap.
- Jennifer Frances Armstrong I think this is not the place for priestly mediation. Both I and LeeAnne are way beyond that
- LeeAnne Fourcrows Hensley Also, sometimes there is more to be gained intellectually from sorting out the aftermath when a risk became a reality.
- Jennifer Frances Armstrong I totally agree with the statement above.
