Feminism and generic put-downs

Are generic put-downs compatible with intellectual life?

This is very well put. It seems to me that you were really raised in about 1900, and your views on feminism come from an immediate knowledge of a real and functioning patriarchy. There's no denying the good that the feminist movement has done, but has it kept up with the times? The world has changed, and cries of patriarchy in the context I find myself in often seem alarmist and hysterical. Many of the people I've met who self-identify as feminist seem to like nothing more than to hover over a conversation like buzzards, waiting for something to be offended by so that they may launch into their standard diatribe. Same goes for a lot of Evangelical Christians of my aquantance, or vegans, or gun rights activists... YOU don't seem to be this sort of person at all, but I bet that you are often associated with this sort of person in the minds of other people.
