Fighting history's projections

By "fighting back" I meant intellectually.  I had to gain an intellectual understanding of the mechanisms that had been used against me.  For instance, during the war in Rhodesia, the Western media bombarded people in the West with notions that people like me were very pretentious and very nazi-like, and things like that.  A totally false image in most respects.  When I arrived as a migrant, I had no idea I had been set up for a series of massive falls because of the perpetuation of these images.  By "fighting back" I mean I had to learn what these images were and then be prepared t encounter people who thought that way about me.
