Where does shamanic insight come from?

I don’t think the shaman type is necessarily an idiot, but in my view is someone broken by the very real structures of power relations or what you may be inclined to call “identity affiliations”. Actually in the case of someone like Marechera, he got insights that vastly transcended the normal options for identity affiliation because his genius level of intelligence made him restless with these affiliations to the point that he was broken by them. It was not his innate genius that gave him the capacity of a seer but the brokenness in relation to identity, which came later. It was only this that enabled him to help others stuck in a pointless identity politics war that only did harm to them.
