Guilt, shame, upsetting emotions and shamanism

Of course the one aspect of Jesus' narrative that is totally in accord with shamanism is his death and descent to the underworld to experience the negative aspects of human experience.  Guilt, shame, violence and being expunged from society are dimensions of experience that shamanism concerns itself with.  Shamans take the evil that others project or want to disown directly into themselves and somehow dissolve that evil by conquering it.
