Gender essentialism

Sunday Link Encyclopedia and Self-Promotion | Clarissa's Blog

The problem is that feminism has incorporated a lot of ascetic values.   Nietzsche considered that even the pursuit of "truth" is inextricably bound with the ascetic ideal, that is in turn linked to the historically engendered religious training of the mind and body.   So if feminists are saying, "You have to accept feminism because 'it is true'," then what else is "true"?  You end up with gender essentialism or other metaphysical (religious) postulates.   And gender essentialism, false as it is because it does not take into account historical contingency, says that women are asexual or have a different kind of sexuality from men, or so on.
