Definition of middle-brow

My definition of the middle-brow is epitomized in the view that one never really speaks or writes except to promote or defend one's self image.

Against this tendency, I insist that an element of irony in communication is always possible and that one ought to be open to its appearance at any time.

I thus counteract the assumptive nature of all middle-brows.
