The inability to fight is related to the inability to grasp the side of our humanity that Bataille calls "insufficiency" (which means knowing the extent to which we are not God and so not perfect). I think we can use the same critique to understand why it is so difficult for so many people to enter a proper intellectual debate openly and honestly. Some people have intellectual pretensions but they use rhetorical tricks rather than aiming for an honest debate.
