Narcissism is a strange language. I used to try to undertand it as the language of Western culture, where everything has a distorted equivalence. For instance pain is interpreted, in a narc culture, not as painful, but as a claim for attention and narcissistic supply. Gratitude is interpreted as gloating. Overtures of friendship are interpreted as bitter envy. Emotional self control is interpreted as haughtiness. In the end, though, if you apply this narcissistic perverted reasoning to reality you get an existence that is so flattened that life truly isn't worth living."
